DotSafe vs Keepsafe

4 min read · Updated

Keepsafe is one of the best-known photo vaults, with hundreds of thousands of ratings on the App Store. It keeps photos behind a PIN and backs them up to its own cloud. DotSafe has no account and no servers, and it opens a vault for every pattern.

Where Keepsafe is the better choice

  • Backup with no setup. Keepsafe backs up your photos to its cloud, and you can open them on other devices, Android too.
  • Face ID. You can open Keepsafe with a look. DotSafe always asks for the pattern.
  • The yearly price. Keepsafe Premium costs less for a year than DotSafe Pro.

Where DotSafe is different

  • No account and no servers. DotSafe does not know who you are. Your vaults are on your device, and with Pro, an encrypted copy is in your own iCloud. Only your pattern makes the keys, so no company can read your data.
  • No ads and no tracking. The free plan of DotSafe has no ads, and the app collects no data.
  • No wrong pattern. Each pattern opens a vault, and nothing shows how many vaults you have. A person who makes you open the app cannot tell if they saw everything. See How plausible deniability works.
  • Why no Face ID. A person can hold your device up to your face. A pattern is in your memory only.
  • Records. Keep logins, card numbers and ID details as text, with hidden fields and a clipboard that clears after 60 seconds.

Which one to choose

If you want a cloud backup that works on all your devices, and Face ID to open it, Keepsafe is a good choice. If you do not want an account, ads or a company that has your data, or if someone could make you open the app, choose DotSafe.
